ONLINE WORSHIP PREPARATION

How do we gather together when we can’t gather together in person?

Plan ∗ Prepare ∗ Participate
PLAN

Plan when you will connect with our online worship experience.
The service will stream Live on Facebook at 11 a.m. on Sunday, but you can watch any time that your schedule allows.  The service will also be available on our YouTube channel after 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Plan enough time not just to watch the service but to have some quiet time before or after to reflect on what God may be speaking to you specifically.

Look at the bulletin and announcements for the coming service.
You can find the bulletin, announcements, scripture, and hymns here:

Will Communion be celebrated this Sunday?  If so, you will want to prepare your bread and juice in advance.  Will this service include special activities that require a few supplies?  Gather those ahead of time, so that you can participate fully.

Invite others to “join” you for church.
This can be accomplished with a phone call, a note, or just sharing the invitation to the service on social media.

PREPARE

Create a worshipful setting.
This step will mean different things to different people.  What will help you to limit distractions and to center your thoughts?  You might want to light a candle to symbolize the entrance of Jesus Christ, the light of our world, into your space.  You might want to create a centerpiece for worship from items around your house.  You may want to play worship music or have your Bible handy so that you can read scripture to prepare your heart and mind.

Prepare your technology at least 15 minutes in advance.
On a practical note, make sure that the device you’re using to participate in the service is ready to go.  You won’t want to miss the first moments of the service because you are trouble-shooting any technical difficulties that could arise.

Get settled.
Position everyone to be able to see the screen.  Test the audio.  Grab that cup of coffee or tea.
.
Pray.
Before the service begins, offer a prayer asking for God’s presence.  Give this special time to God.  Pray for your pastor and all worship leaders.
PARTICIPATE

OR

Make a choice to move from “watching” to “participating”!
Do everything you would do if you were present together in our sanctuary!  You might feel awkward at first.  You might even think, what’s the point?  Ah, but every time we worship the Lord Jesus Christ as the gathered community on earth, we unite with the saints in glory, the church triumphant, as they do the same.  So go ahead–sing, pray, and gesture in abandon, for you are not alone after all!

Be sure to record your attendance.
Follow this link.  There is no login and no password.  All that is required is your name and the names of others listening with you!

Keep up with your giving.

Reflect on the experience.

Worshiping remotely can easily become passive, so let’s do what we can to fully engage!
Think of it as rehearsing for that first Sunday when we are finally back in the sanctuary (or fellowship hall
or sitting on the lawn) together again.
